Withdrawal of e-Record ~ Is it time to upgrade to MYOB or XERO?

Is it time to start planning your upgrade to MYOB or XERO?

From the 2010-11 income year the Tax Office's record-keeping product, e‑Record will no longer be available.

The product has been reviewed and found to no longer be compatible with current commercial record-keeping systems. It would also need to be redeveloped to keep up with technology and new business directions.

Version 6.2 is the final version of e-Record and is available for download until 30 June 2010.

We encourage e-Record users to consider purchasing record-keeping software by 30 June 2010. To find out more about available software, visit the Software developers homepage.

For more information, see E-Record withdrawal.

What does it mean for you the small business owner?  If you are using e-record we can discuss your reporting needs and assist you to move across to a suitable business management / accounting package.  If it is time for you to start planning your upgrade to MYOB or XERO, we look forward to hearing from you!

MYOB Premier Shuts down unexpectedly?

A client, running on Windows 7 advised me that her MYOB Premier was shutting down unexpectedly.  I visited her office, and indeed, we would be working on it and for no reason, we were not processing anything, maybe doing something simple like data entry, MYOB Premier simply shut down.

This is of concern, as anything that happens ‘unexpectedly’ may corrupt the MYOB data file and it not good for the businesses productivity.

After speaking with colleagues about this issue, I have learnt that possible resolutions to their problem include;

àReviewing any recent changes to the environment which the software works;

àTry moving the data file to a different location as MYOB is very sensitive;

àEnsure you are running the latest up to date printer drivers for the operating system;

àEnsure you are running the latest up to date network card for the operating system;

I will advise the client accordingly.

'Amateur hour' is over

I love Fiji, and one of my pleasures while on the island, is to read their local paper, which is frank to the extreme.  Here is a link to a gem of an article;

http://www.fijitimes.com/story.aspx?id=137995

The article is discussing  Fiji Rugby Union financial issues

........extract.......

It has come to light that the board still does not receive adequate financial information at each board meeting.

No Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet, Cash flow projections. These should be standard in any organisation the size of the FRU.

........extract.......

Where is the debt reduction plan?

Why is the board still not furnished with acceptable monthly financial reports to enable them to do their job?

They have a finance person who must have had the training to complete this reporting. They have a software package that claims to be able to produce this reporting (MYOB?) so why isn't it being done?

........

I hear Fiji calling...we would be happy to assist in working with you on this issue...we assist many boards understand and utilise their financial reports.
