Improve your financial knowledge thru watching these compelling videos on The Corporate Collapse of ABC produced by @cpaaustralia.  Finance nerd David Koch goes into detail about how information could be found in the financial statements that should have lead to questions being asked.  He covers a lot of common questions my clients ask me, such as why does my cashflow not equal my profit.

MYOB : One or more parts of this journal entry have been reconciled.

If a window pops up in MYOB and says;

“One or more parts of this journal entry have been reconciled.  Changing or deleting this entry will affect your next reconciliation.”

It means the entry that you are looking at has been matched or reconciled typically to a bank or credit card statement.  It is perfectly acceptable for you to look at the transaction; however, if you delete, or alter the TOTAL monetary values, it will alter the reconciled accounts.  Sometimes, when correcting transactions this needs to be done, but a correction reconciliation, for the period effected will need to be done, if these changes are made.  Why?  Because if the balance brought forward is $100, and a transaction of $50 is deleted, the information in MYOB will now be different to the bank statement.  A correction reconciliation will be needed to align the balances brought forward.

@Westpac Twitter controversy - Tweetfunnel approval is the answer!

A single TWEET profile can be feed by several people, thru for example a product like TweetFunnel.  There are means to post, approve, and delete tweets when it is done this way, but it has obviously been a long day!

As with anything it is important to have complete trust in who is promoting your brand to the community / market.

Tweeps now love the social media tweep at Westpac, and they appear to have 100 new followers – what will tomorrow bring?

Best wishes to the social media tweep at Westpac hope tomorrow is a better day.

Pimp your website for maximum results

The Australian government has recognised the importance of small business going online, and has offered a number of grants to assist the business owner into the ecommerce environment.  Many small business owners do have an online website, though thru lack of time or understandings have simply left it alone, and thus the investment is not being optimised.

Brad Halcrow of Neurovision shares 5 simple tips for improving a website presence, and maximising returns.

1. Occasionally tweet your website.

Now that Google indexes Twitter, a niche Twitter update using key words, enhances the likelihood you're website will be found. For example: Beautiful white furniture now in stock: {insert URL].

2. Include a 'Call to Action' on every page.

Call Now! Sign Up! Contact Us!  Invite prospective clients to make contact with you immediately.  Ensure the invite stands out, and is high on the web page.

3. Include white space.

White spaces allow your headings to be easily caught by the visitor’s eye.  You need to ensure the size of your body text and the size of your headings contrast, to make it easy to read.

4. Keep your content up to date.

Your websites ranking on Google will be improved by fresh content.  Establish how you are able to update the website, and aim to do it at least monthly.

5. Review

Review your site, is the content still relevant to your business as it stands today.  Just like a shop, without a spit and polish, without a fresh look and occasionally update it can tend to look neglected.

“Promote the business website, update it, ensure it is easy to use, and customers actually know what the business sells and how to buy it, and your business will reap the returns”

Withdrawal of e-Record ~ Is it time to upgrade to MYOB or XERO?

Is it time to start planning your upgrade to MYOB or XERO?

From the 2010-11 income year the Tax Office's record-keeping product, e‑Record will no longer be available.

The product has been reviewed and found to no longer be compatible with current commercial record-keeping systems. It would also need to be redeveloped to keep up with technology and new business directions.

Version 6.2 is the final version of e-Record and is available for download until 30 June 2010.

We encourage e-Record users to consider purchasing record-keeping software by 30 June 2010. To find out more about available software, visit the Software developers homepage.

For more information, see E-Record withdrawal.

What does it mean for you the small business owner?  If you are using e-record we can discuss your reporting needs and assist you to move across to a suitable business management / accounting package.  If it is time for you to start planning your upgrade to MYOB or XERO, we look forward to hearing from you!
